Richmond Area Bot Instigated Destruction (RABID) is pleased to announce our next event — a day of robot combat at Regency Mall!
Date: Saturday, November 7, 2026
Location: Regency Mall, 1420 N Parham Rd, Richmond, VA 23229 — lower level, central common area right outside the Adult Education Center
Getting there
Turn onto Holly Hill Rd. off N Parham Rd. and park in the covered lower-level parking lot. Enter the mall, go straight, turn right, and you'll run straight into us!
Our Brand-New Arena!
Antweight and Beetleweight fights will take place in our brand-new 8x8 ft double-layered polycarbonate arena! Built for maximum action and visibility, this arena delivers safer walls, louder impacts, and an incredible spectator experience. Fairyweight fights will run in our 4x4 ft fairy arena.
Spectators: Free! No tickets required.
Times
9:00 AM — Doors and pits open
9:45 AM — Safety and check-in
10:30 AM — Drivers meeting, safety closed
11:00 AM — FIGHTS START
Matches typically run until 6:00 PM, with the most back-to-back action early on.
Pits will be inside — you may need to bring your own extension cords and power strips. Please use a lipo bag while charging.
Competition Classes
- 3D Printed Plastic Antweights (1 lb)
- Fairyweights (150g)
- Beetleweights (3 lb)
Rules & Format
- Modified SPARC ruleset (http://rabidrva.com/RABID_Robot_Construction_Specifications_v1.6.pdf)
- Approved materials for plastic ants: printed ABS, ASA, PET, PETG, PLA, PLA+, PCTG, TPU and TPE
- Motors, wheels, fasteners, and electronics don't need to be printed, but must not be a significant structural part of the bot
- Non-printed parts should not be exposed in a way that they can be hit or hit another bot — the bot should be as much 3D printed as possible
- No heat, fire, smoke, entanglement, or other weapons that don't fit the spirit of the rules
- Locomotion weight bonuses:
- Shufflers: 1.25x bonus (568g ant, 188g fairy)
- Non-traditional locomotion (e.g. gyro walkers, bristle bots): 1.5x bonus (681g ant, 225g fairy)
- True walkers (no continuous rotational movement for locomotion, including vibration motors): full weight bonus (908g ant, 300g fairy)
- Batteries must be protected at all times — an exposed battery during a fight ends the match, and that bot loses. Charge batteries in lipo bags.
- Bots get at least 20 minutes between fights for repairs
- Only 1 unstick attempt, and only if both bots are stuck. If they can't be separated or get stuck again, the match goes to the judges.
- Rules questions? Contact us BEFORE the event.
- Format: Double-elimination bracket
- Match Length: 2:30 minutes
